So let’s get started!!

What are Blackheads and Whiteheads?

The medical term for blackheads and whiteheads is “open comedo” and “closed comedo” respectively. The clogged pore or hair follicle in the skin is called a “comedo” or “plug”. When the amount of dirt, bacteria or oil is high on the skin, they block the skin pore or hair follicle resulting in blackheads or whiteheads. This may also cause acne. If the clogged pore is open then it results in Blackhead. If the clogged pore is closed by skin it results in whiteheads.

Blackheads and Whiteheads are common in adolescents. However, we can see this problem in all types of age groups.

What are the causes of Blackheads and Whiteheads?blackheads-whiteheads-10

Each and every follicle contains one hair and a sebaceous gland that produces oil. The sebum or the oil produced by the sebaceous gland is what keeps our skin soft. The sebum, dead skin cells and bacteria gets collected in the opening of the hair follicle, and when they are exposed to the air or oxygen, the dead skin cells turn black, hence resulting in blackheads.

Similarly, Whiteheads are also caused in the same manner but whiteheads are mainly caused due to increase or change in hormone levels. That is the reason they are mainly observed during

  • Menstruation
  • Puberty
  • Pregnancy
  • Menopause

If the sebum, bacteria and dead skin cells are trapped in the follicle and if the surface of the hair follicle is closed, then it is called a whitehead. It is said that acne, blackheads, and whiteheads are more common in women than in men.

Before starting with the ingredients to prepare the recipe (sic) that helps you to get rid of those little beauty distracters, try this simple procedure that helps you maintain your face clean and dirt free.

Procedure to remove dirt from your face:

  1. Cover your head with a towel and bend over a bowl of boiled water and let your face absorb the steam like you are trying to unblock a stuffy nose.
  2. After a few seconds of the above steps, take a cotton ball and wipe your face gently. In this step, you see that the dirt on your face gets on to the cotton.
  3. Repeat this process two to three times with a good amount of steam.
  4. At the second time, instead of a cotton ball, take a cotton bud and very gently try to take off the blackheads and whiteheads by rubbing on them very gently. You can also use the blackheads remover tool to remove them. A few small blackheads and whiteheads can be removed by doing this.
  5. When you are done, wash your face with cool water.

Hot water or steam opens the pores while the cool water or ice closes the pores.
